The Area

Outline map of FranceThis part of La Vendée is very rural. The people are very friendly and welcoming and though few speak English well, if at all, if you make an effort to speak French they are happy to join in!

We keep mentioning about the peace and quiet of the hamlet of La Brunetière - that's because it's peaceful, but also we would suggest to you that if you want a resort - this is the wrong place. There are a few restaurants, mostly open in the summer with a few out of season. However, the cottage is ideally set up for self catering with all you need to look after yourselves, somewhere in the house.

The village of Champ de Père is good for everyday shopping with a small supermarket, Boulangerie, Pharmacie, Tabac and a couple of bars if you feel so inclined.

You will find superb beaches just 20 minutes drive away - either the surfing beach (just beach and sky) at Les Conches or the town of La Tranche sur Mer, with similar beaches but also shops, bars, restaurants and markets.

The nearest towns are La Roche sur Yon (which we use) or Luçon - both about 20 minutes drive away.
